What Is The Supporting People Programme?
The Supporting People Programme which was introduced by Government in 2003 is committed to providing a better quality of life for vulnerable people through 'Housing Related Support' by enabling people to develop the necessary skills and confidence.
What Is Housing Related Support?
The Primary purpose of 'Housing Related Support' is to develop and sustain an individual's capacity to live independently in their accommodation. 'Housing Related Support' aims to prevent problems that can often lead to hospitalisation, institutional care or homelessness and can help with the smooth transition to independent living for those leaving an institutionalised environment (ie. Hospital or Prison).
Who Provides The Support Services?
There are currently 27 Service Providers which include Private Organisations, Community Organisations, Social Service Department and Housing Departments who deliver housing related support to a number of individuals (and their families) within the County Borough. Some of the Organisations provide a broad service to people with a multitude of support needs and others provide specialist services (ie mental health or drug/alcohol services).
